| De-amalgamation Update - July/August 2010 |
|
This is the first newsletter in a regular series of information updates for members interested in the issues and progress of the Merimbula Imlay Bowling Club's (MIBC) proposed de-amalgamation of the two clubs. Should the de-amalgamation go ahead a new club would be formed, so current Tura Beach Country Club members are key stakeholders in setting the direction of a new Club. We would encourage all members to participate in the process and contribute ideas and suggestions. You can contact any of the Steering Committee (SC) members by email or phone as listed below. Our first information night was held on 16 June with over 80 members attending. The SC provided an update on a range of issues including incorporation of a new company, the Club's financial position, a new constitution and existing contract and leasing arrangements. Most questions related to the Club's financial position and incorporation process and the MIBC Board's application to the Supreme Court for approval before the de-amalgamation can proceed. The application to the Court will be made in the near future and the SC should then be in a better position to advise members if the de-amalgamation is likely to go ahead and the timeframe involved. It is our understanding that the MIBC Board will be in a position to take the Court's recommendation to members at the October AGM. At the meeting members were asked to nominate if they wished to participate in a number different sub-committees to assist the SC with many of the de-amalgamation processes. Thanks to the many members who put their names forward. The first meeting of all sub-committees was held on 6 July. The sub-committees will look at the following de-amalgamation issues:
A letter asking for feedback on aspects of the proposed Constitution will be sent to the Tura Beach sub-clubs in August, in preparation for developing a draft document for members to consider. A survey of all Tura and near surround residents will be also conducted in the next few weeks to canvass the community on their views on the services and activities that a new club would need have to attract their future participation.
